It's Time to Go Against the Tide

It's the start of a new year. Why not begin a blog?

"When the whole world is running towards a cliff, - he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind." - C. S. Lewis

In today's society, everyone has an account on some form of social platform and personally, I get sucked into scrolling a lot. Each post you come across is filled with people's ideas of what is right and wrong, spiritual thoughts that are not found within God's Word, profane vocabulary, and/or inappropriate suggestive videos that pop out of nowhere, etc. I wish I didn't have social media, but the problem is that is exactly what I have.

Effects of Social Media

Since the creation of social media, I will not discredit how it has brought people from far places together. It has also brought awareness to many issues that need to be addressed and has kept families and friends connected.

But I cannot forget the fact that "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction." - Isaac Newton's Law of Motion. If we are constantly feeding our minds with the things of this world, our ethics, our actions, and the way we make our decisions are going to be corrupt. Maybe I had the right heart, but my moral judgment was distorted by what the culture says is the 'norm." Thus, what I thought was a great decision backfires and I end up not only accidentally hurting myself, but those around me.

"Morality that begins with me, must logically and necessarily end with me"

- Dr. Joseph Davis from Southeastern University

As human beings, we cannot base our morality upon ourselves, our culture, or any source that is not God because we all change. Our culture changes, psychology changes, etc. But God does not change. To go to the world for solutions to my deep-rooted problems has been the worst mistake I've ever made and has always made me feel trapped.

If my reason is not convincing enough (not that I am trying to convince anyone) then look at Galatians 6:7-8.

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life."

My Decision

I've decided to take a year off of social media except to post here or there once or twice a month. Most of my posts will be on this blog instead. My reason is that I would like to consecrate my life to the Lord and allow Him to renew my mind. I wish to be led by the Holy Spirit and not let the devil have a foothold in my life.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. - Romans 12:1-2

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. - Philippians 4:8

All of Ephesians 4 is good to read!

Now, I shall publish this blog, and then contemplate the consequence of my writing it. I do most of my best thinking past midnight and I have been writing this post since 9 PM. It is currently 3:25 AM now and I need to leave for my University by 6:30 AM. 7 AM at the latest. Hopefully, this made sense.
