Dear Friend

(This poem I’ve written was a prayer that in the end drew me closer to Jesus.)
Please forgive me, dear friend of mine,
For the distance between us,
For the hurt and the sorrow,
For the moments of strife.
I miss the fellowship we once shared,
The laughter and the joy,
The singing together,
In perfect harmony.
Will things ever be better,
Can wounds truly heal?
Will the pain and the sorrow
Ever fade and reveal?
The fear that grips me in its icy hold,
The panic rising, uncontrollable
I watch from afar as you draw close,
To others who offer friendship and repose.
I long for the days
When our hearts were aligned,
When love ruled our actions,
And unity defined.
Though my words may fail,
And my deeds fall short,
Know that my love for you
Is a flame that won't abort.
Oh, Jesus, my Savior,
Please mend what is broken,
Heal the wounds of the past,
And let forgiveness be spoken.
Grant me strength to move forward,
To let go of the pain,
And restore what was lost,
A sweet, gentle rain.
For in forgiveness lies freedom,
And in unity, true grace,
May our hearts be reconciled,
In this sacred, hallowed space.
